CHAPTER 10: GAS EXCHANGE
The purpose of this chapter was to identify the different components that make up the gas exchange system and to describe their functions. The vocabulary quiz suggests I know all the vocabulary necessary for this chapter. The test however, shows that I am lacking understanding as to what the human gas exchange system as a whole is designed to do. I have fixed that mistake in the following paragraph.
The human gas exchange system links the circulatory system with the atmosphere. It is adapted to:
The importance of the human gas exchange system is crystal clear: without it we would not be able to breath and therefore, live.
The human gas exchange system links the circulatory system with the atmosphere. It is adapted to:
- clean and warm the air that enters during breathing
- maximize the surface area for diffusion of oxygen and CO2 between the blood and atmosphere
- minimize the distance for the diffusion and maintain adequate gradients
The importance of the human gas exchange system is crystal clear: without it we would not be able to breath and therefore, live.
